8 Tips to Make Windows 10 battery last longer

8 Tips to Make Windows 10 battery last longer

Not liike the previous versions of Windows, Windows 10 was made to run optimally on mobile devices such as laptops, tablets, and hybrid.

No wonder if eventually there are a variety of features that you can use to make batteries laptop / tablet Windows 10 become longer. But unfortunately not all Windows 10 users take advantage of this feature.

For those of you who want to batteries laptop / tablet Windows 10 yours is longer, following these 7 tips you can practice:

1. Set Battery Saver
Battery Saver is a feature in Windows 10 that you can use to save battery laptop / tablet.

This feature will automatically manage power usage in Windows 10 so as to be more efficient.

Battery Saver will automatically turn on when the battery is below the percentage that you specify, and automatically turns off when the battery is more than that.

You can set what percentage of the minimum battery before the battery saver turns on automatically. The default is 20%, but you can increase this percentage if you often work in mobile and need to conserve battery power longer.

To change it you can open the Settings> System> Battery Saver> Battery saver settings> then scroll to the percentage that you want.

Make sure the checkbox Lower screen brightness while in battery saver participate checked.

2. Reduce Background Apps

Still in Battery Saver, click the Battery Use> Change background app settings> then turn off background apps that you never use.

Here I turn off the Groove Music, Get Office, Weather, and Xbox because they have never used it.

The more background app that you switch it off, the more battery saving laptop / tablet Windows 10 you.

In addition through the Battery Saver, these settings you can also access through Settings> Privacy> Background Apps

3. Set Power & Sleep

You can set how long the screen turns off automatically when the laptop / tablet in idle condition using the battery via the Settings> System> Power & sleep

It is important that the battery is not wasted to turn on the screen when youre not using.

Here I set the display will turn off automatically if within 3 minutes laptop I did not use.

4. Turn on Battery Saver & Change Power Plan If ..

When you:

  • Being outdoors
  • Away from the charger
  • Plans to use the laptop for long periods without charging
  • and other similar conditions

You can turn on Battery Saver although the percentage of battery power is still high.

I click the battery icon in the system tray, and switch Battery Saver manually with a click of a button.

You can also change the power plan to Power Saver, by right-clicking the battery icon> Power Options> Change to Power Saver

This is done so that you can use a laptop without charging in time as long as possible.

But you need to know that both of these will be affected to a decline in the performance of the laptop / tablet Windows 10, but it will maximize the durability of the battery during use.

5. Decrease Brightness

Its no secret that the screen is one component of a laptop / tablet which consumes a lot of battery power. Therefore if you are in need of maximum battery durability, lower the brightness on your screen.

But of course make sure brightness remains at a comfortable level for your eyes when using it.

6. Set Power Plan (Advanced)

Windows comes with several default power plan that you can modify, even you can create new ones from scratch.

Lets say you create a new power plan according to the conditions, for example Out of Home, At Work, etc; then customize the configuration according to your needs.

You can also modify an existing power plan.

To do this simply right click the battery icon in the system tray> Power Options> Change plan settings on the power plan you want to modify> Change advanced power settings

Well there you can set it manually, when Windows will shut down the hard disk when idle, paused jamming desktop background, saving power WiFi, etc.

In many ways it is actually an advanced modification is not so necessary, but for those that want to, why not?

7. Reduce Startup Program

Startup program runs in the background, resource consuming, and of course participate consumes battery power.

Some software automatically inserts itself as a Startup Program, although it is not required.

Therefore, if it is a program you do not need to run automatically in the background, disable any of the Startup Program.

The trick is to right-click the Start Menu> Task Manager> Startup> and disable programs you need.

The more minimal running Startup Program, supported by the lack Background Apps above, the battery laptop / tablet Windows 10 you will be more durable.

8. For those who use Intel may set power settings so Maximum Battery Life can sometimes add up to 1-2 hours longer battery ??

Thats 8 tips to make windows 10 battery last longer.

LG releases software update to fix LG G4s low battery life issue

LG releases software update to fix LG G4s low battery life issue

Though an aging 2015 flagship, the LG G4 is a great smartphone and its only big weakness is its poor battery life, which is very short compared to many competing flagships of today.  The G4 is now available for less than $300 in many countries and that makes it a bargain phone for someone looking for a well-built smartphone with excellent camera, 2K resolution display and enough power for basic use as well as 3D gaming (todays standards). However, the G4s battery barely lasts 4 hours during video playback and with intense use you will get a little over 3 hours, which is quite low considering the G4 packs a large 3000mAh battery. Many expected the battery life to increase after Android 6.0  Marshmallow was released for the G4, but even the new "doze" feature couldnt improve G4s average battery life. Fortunately. G4 supports fast charging technology, which should juice it up from 0 to 100% in a little over 1 hour of time.

There is good news for people who have been charging their LG G4 smartphone twice or more on daily basis. LG has released a software update today (June 10, 2016) that is expected to bring noticeable improvement to G4s battery life. So check for software update on your G4 and run the installation. Make sure you have at least 60% before you install the software update.

If you have disabled auto update, Go to settings >> General >> scroll down and tap "About" >> Check for updates.

How to check your laptop battery health in Windows 10

How to check your laptop battery health in Windows 10

Is your laptops battery draining faster than normal? For example- your battery used to last 5 hours but now barely an hour. Or,the battery indicator shows sudden or sharp drop in the percentage remaining. Sometimes even new laptop batteries can show such signs. Did you get a faulty battery or an old one with a very low capacity? So how do you check if your battery is in working condition or is it really damaged and needs to be replaced? If youre a Windows user there no need to install a separate program for this because Windows has a simple command that helps you easily check the condition or health status of your laptops battery.

How to checking laptop battery Condition in Windows 10

  1. Click Start >> Type CMD in the search bar
  2. Right click on "Command Prompt" and select "Run as administrator"
  3. Now in the command prompt type cd %userprofile%/Desktop >> Press Enter
  4. Type powercfg -energy >> Press Enter

After a few minutes the command will generate an energy-report.html file, which will be saved on your desktop. Simply head to desktop and then open that file. The energy report has full information about your Laptop. However, you dont need to go through all of that to check the battery health. Simply scroll down and find a section called "Battery Information". For simplicity press ctrl+F and then type "Battery Information" in the search bar.

The things you should look at are the(Factory) Design capacity and Last Full Charge values. If your Last Full Charge is closer or not very low compared to the Design capacity, then your battery is in good condition/health. However, if its too low then your battery is in poor health and needs to be replaced because it cannot hold charge at its design capacity. For example- in the picture  above you can see Design Capacity is 47520 but the Last Full Charge is 2610. This indicates your battery now holds a maximum of only 5.5% charge of the original capacity. This battery barely lasts 15 minutes.

Does Wallpaper Affect Battery Life of Smartphones and Tablets

Does Wallpaper Affect Battery Life of Smartphones and Tablets

This has been long debated among smartphone users. While there’s no doubt that live wallpapers eat up more power, many believe that the use of bright and colorful (static) wallpapers can also decrease battery life faster. This is actually true but this phenomenon only affects certain type of displays because different manufacturers use different kind of display technology.

How wallpapers affect battery life in smartphones and tablets

LG G2 LCD VS Samsung Galaxy S4 LED VS HTC One LCD screen

       LCD VS AMOLED

Two of the most popular display technologies used today are LCD and AMOLED. LCD or Liquid Crystal Displays are the most widely used screens on Android smartphones or tablets. Nexus 5 and Xperia Z use this type of display. LCDs have actual crystals which are illuminated by the lights underneath them or backlit. So in this case even you have all black wallpaper, the backlit is still on to illuminating the dark surface. This means your LCD screen is lit up almost all the times and it uses lots of power to do so.

AMOLED or Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode is also a popular display techonology used in Smartphones, Tablets and TVs. There are also OLED displays which are different because they don’t use active matrix. Most of the Samsung smartphones like Galaxy S4, S5, Note 4 use AMOLED. The latest Moto X and Nexus 6 also use this display tech. AMOLEDs are less power hungry than LCDs because AMOLEDs are lit up pixel by pixel unlike LCDS, where all the pixels are illumined all the time. So if you have dark wallpaper in AMOLED display, those dark areas actually don’t lit up and become true black. You can do further research to study about the underlying tech of AMOLED involving electroluminescence.

How do you save battery life via wallpaper

      Dark Theme for Android
If you have an LCD display then the choice of wallpaper won’t affect your device’s battery life. Fortunately, devices with LCDs come with larger batteries, power efficient processor or some battery saving software features. Now, if you have an AMOLED display, you can do the following to save your battery life:

      • Use a all-black or darker wallpaper and themes. AMOLED displays with dark wallpaper/theme can reportedly save over 8% of battery life at full brightness. Source: XDA
      • Use nightmode: Many e-reader apps come with nightmodes which turn background into black and text into white so that it’s easier to read at night. This function also saves battery life when used on AMOLED screens.
      • Dark Screen filters: There are screen filter apps which add darker shades to your android screen.
      • Dark Themes: Some ROMS and android launchers also support dark themes where all the icons, texts and backgrounds are turned into black or monochrome.

If you have an OLED or AMOLED display and you want better battery life, give the above tips a try and share your experience with us.

Fix Plugged in not charging laptop battery problem

Fix Plugged in not charging laptop battery problem

All lithium ion laptop batteries have fixed life span and as time passes these batteries lose their capacity to hold a charge. Recently my laptop battery died and I had to replace it with a new one. However, I noticed that the battery would only charge till 93% and sometimes not beyond 96%. Then it stops charging as if its fully charged. When I clicked on the battery meter at the bottom right taskbar (in Windows 10), it showed either 96% or 93% available (plugged in not charging). I found that many users have faced similar problem of battery not charging fully with a new laptop battery. Old laptop batteries may also face similar issue with the battery indicator showing wrong reading- for example: getting stuck on 98% and not charging.  Fortunately, there are some simple steps that can get your laptop charging to a full 100%.  Read below to find out how to fix battery indicator not showing full charge in Windows laptop:

How to fix 93% available (plugged in, not charging) laptop battery issue

      1. Shutdown your laptop
      2. Take out the battery
      3. Disconnect the power supply or charger
      4. Now press the power button and hold it for 45 seconds or 1 min
      5. Connect the power supply
      6. Now put the battery back on
After completing the above steps, turn on your computer and now check the battery meter. It should show 100% Fully Charged or at least start charging from the point where it was previously stuck. If that didnt fix the problem, disconnect power supply and remove the battery, and then leave your laptop like that for an hour. After that your laptop battery should charge like normal.

How to calibrate battery for Android devices

How to calibrate battery for Android devices

Before we delve into details about calibrating smartphone and tablet batteries, let’s talk about what battery calibration actually is, why is it needed and when should you calibrate your battery. All types of rechargeable batteries have a certain life cycle or a number of recharge cycles. Batteries gradually lose their ability to hold charge until finally they’re no longer usable. Because of this permanent battery draining, the battery stats of your Android operating system may start showing unlikely remaining times. For example- your battery stat may show 100% even though you’ve left your smartphone charging for only 1 hour.

When to calibrate battery of your Android device?

The first sign of battery going bad is obviously fast discharging where your battery shows more percentage remaining than the actual available amount. For example- your battery stats might show 30% remaining before abruptly shutting down. Sometimes the calibration error is also caused when you have overcharged your device and the battery stats shows wrong reading. If you’re getting weird readings on your battery stats, then it’s time to calibrate it. For accurate reading, it is also recommended that you calibrate your battery each time after you flash a new ROM or Kernel.

If your battery shows physical signs such as bloating or swelling, cracks etc., it’s time to replace the battery.

How to calibrate battery in Android

      Manual Method for battery calibration

      •  Turn on device >> Connect your device to its charger >> Let it charge 100%.
      •  Turn off device >> Connect to charger >> Leave it until it shows 100% or charge complete (shown my LED or onscreen indicator)
      •  Again, Remove from charger >> Turn on device >> Connect your device to its charger >> Leave the screen on >> Let it charge 100%.
      • Leave your device until its battery drains to 0% and then recharge it to 100%. Now your battery is calibrated

       Calibration using Android App

      • First check your battery capacity in mAh (it should be written on the battery or the device manual)
      • Download Battery Monitor app.
      • Charge your smartphone or tablet. The app will show you total charge in mAh (milliamps)
      • Charge until the app shows total mAh equivalent to your battery capacity
      • Again let the battery drain to 0% and then fully recharge

Using Battery calibration app for rooted devices

      • Download and install Battery Calibration
      • Open Battery Calibration app
      • Connect your android device to the charger
      • Let it charge until it reaches 100% • Press “Battery Calibration” on the app
      • Reboot device and use it as usual
      • Let it fully drain to 0% and then fully recharge to 100%
      • If you’re having problem with battery running out fast in android device, give the above methods a try. Many users have experienced noticeable increase in battery life after calibration.
