First of all don’t freak out because the screen going completely black is a Lollipop bug, meaning it’s just a software glitch and not a serious hardware flaw. So what this bug does is it turns your display completely blank when you set the brightness to its minimum value using the brightness slider in the quick access menu. This mostly occurs only if you have your adaptive brightness enabled on the display settings. Your Android phone or tablet is not screwed it’s just that it’s stuck in 0 brightness setting. This bug has probably been addressed in the latest Lollipop version so you may not get this error if you have the latest Lollipop 5.1.1 version. But if you’ve just experienced this problem try the below methods to turn your display back on- to fix completely dark screen on Android Lollipop after setting the brightness to zero or minimum :

Method 1: Sliding the brightness level back to full while display is still dark

This method is a guessing game. You won’t see anything on your screen but your screen will still be on so you’ll be able to access the quick settings my swiping down. After which you will have to guess the location of the brightness slider and then start tapping from middle of the screen to the right. If you get it wrong at first, press the sleep button and again turn your screen on and repeat the steps until you get it right. I managed to get the brightness back on in first try.

1. If you think your screen has gone to sleep. Press the power button.
2. Swipe down (this will open the quick settings along with the brightness slider but you won’t see it yet) 
3.  Count three rows down from the top of your screen using your finger tip and slide your finger to the middle of the screen and start tapping to the right. When your finger tip catches the brightness slider, you will get your screen back. The slider is at the middle about 30% below the top of your screen. 
4. Now Go to Settings >> Display >> Disable “Adaptive brightness” 

Method 2: Use ADB for resetting brightness

This method uses the ADB tool of Android SDK to set the brightness level for your tablet or
smartphone. For this you will need to download and install or extract the Android SDK Tools for your Windows PC or Mac. Inside the Android SDK tools folder you will find Platform Tools folder where your will have the ADB

Things you will need to do first:

• Download and install Android SDK Tools where you will find the ADB tool inside Platform folder Make sure USB debugging is turned on by going to Settings >> Developer options >> Enable “USB debugging” 
• Make sure that your Android device’s USB drivers is installed on your PC or Mac 
• Simply connect your Android device (USB debugging enabled) to your PC/Mac and it should download the USB drivers automatically from the internet. Or, you can manually download it from your device manufacturer’s website
• If you can’t find developer’s options, go to Settings >>About Tablet/Phone >> Continuously tap on the Build number till you get a notification saying developer options have been enabled. 

Here are the steps to set the brightness using the ADB tool

1. Connect your USB debugging enabled device to your PC/Mac
2. Start command line (On windows, press start key and then type “cmd” ) 
3. Inside cmd window, enter the location(directory) where adb.exe is placed a. In Windows cmd, you can enter a folder by typing CD followed by the folder name 
4. Now run this command to set the new brightness level-  adb shell settings put system screen_brightness 200 
5. Your brightness level should now be set to maximum and your screen should be visible 
6. Now Go to Settings >> Display >> Disable “Adaptive brightness”.

 I hope the above methods helped you get back your totally blank (dark) screen in Android Lollipop. Do not turn on the adaptive brightness unless you’ve received the latest Android Lollipop update.

First: Check to see if you screen protector is causing this issue. Poor screen protectors or dirty ones can also interfere with the proximity sensor.

3. You will not be directed to “Proximity Calibration Info” screen 
4. Select “Start”

I recently purchased the ASUS Zenfone 2 but experience some issues right after powering on the device. After turning it on, it took me to the initial device setup/wizard. Everything looked normal until I tapped the touchscreen. The display was acting weird, the response became very slow and the setup wizard had an annoying voice command prompts for every action made. I assumed it was a display hardware issue. I couldn’t even get past the first pick a language screen easily. I had to double tap to select “next” or any option and the display wasn’t swiping like it would normally do. When I tapped an option it would be highlighted in a green dotted box. After a thorough search on the web I’ve found out that this problem is a minor one and is caused because “TalkBack” option was enabled on my Zenfone 2.To solve this annoying problem, all you have to do is disable talkback but for that you’ll have to know how to get to the settings. Here are the steps to fix the problem of ASUS Zenfone 2 cannot get past initial setup screen :

Fixed: ASUS Zenfone 2 Touchscreen  problem during initial setup 

1. Tap once on an option to select it and double tap to open
2. Repeat the above steps until you get past the initial setup screen (just select next or skip everything)

Many times, users accidentally delete the app drawer(launcher) icon which is the circular button at the center of the bottom of the home screen (dock) which gives you access to all of your apps. Losing this icon means you can’t access the app drawer. However this is a simple issue. You can easily get back the missing app launcher icon. This post will show you how to fix/restore the missing app launcher icon on android:

App drawer icon or button is basically the circle with dots which when clicked lets you see all of your apps or app drawer. The app drawer icon is on the homescreen dock, usually at the middle of the bottom of the homescreen. When the app launcher button is not locked, users can sometimes accidentally drag it to another homescreen. So the first thing to do if that happens, is to swipe through your home screens and look for the icon, and then drag it back to its original place. If you have dragged the icon to the top, then it will be deleted (removed). In that case, you will need to restore the app launcher icon. To get back the missing app drawer icon (button) on your home screen, follow the below methods for each launcher- NOVA, GO, Trebuchet and Apex launcher.

Fix: Restore missing app drawer icon in Nova launcher

For NOVA launcher users the steps to restore or get back missing app drawer icon/button are as follows:

1. Tap and hold (long press) on an empty space on your home screen
2. Select “Widgets”
   
3. From Nova Launcher widgets, long press “Nova Action”
   
4. You will now be taken to the home screen
   
5. Select “App drawer”
   
6. Drag the App drawer icon to its original place on the home screen
   

Fix: Restore Go launcher missing app drawer icon

Follow these steps to get back app drawer icon on Go launcher the home screen

Tap on an empty space on your home screen for a few seconds. Now some message will pop up.
1. Select “Launcher actions” >> press “open/close app drawer”.
   
2. Now you will see have the app drawer icon/button on the homescreen.
   
3. Drag the app drawer button to its original spot.
   

Here’s another method to restore app drawer icon for Go launcher user

1. Tap and hold on any empty spot on your home screen.
   
2. Select “Add” > Then select “Go shortcut” >> Appdrawer
   
3. Select “OK”.
   
4. Now you will see the app drawer icon which you can drag anywhere.
   

For 2015 version of Go Launcher

1. Long press on the lower dock (where the app drawer icon was originally located)
   
2. Select “Default icon” >> A list of default icons will be displayed
   
3. Now select the app drawer icon and it will be added
   

Fix Apex launcher app drawer icon missing

Here are the steps to restore/ get back app drawer icon on Apex launcher users

1. Long press on homescreen
   
2. Select “Apex Actions” >> Add to Home Screen
   
3. Select “App Drawer”
   
4. Now the app drawer icon will appear on the homescreen
   
5. Drag the icon/button to the homescreen dock
   

Fix Trebuchet app drawer icon/ button missing

Many custom ROMs like Cynogenmod has Trebuchet setup as default launcher. If your app drawer icon is missing on Trebuchet here are the steps to get it back:

1. Go to Settings >> Apps
   
2. Scroll down and select “Trebuchet”
   
3. Tap “clear data”
   
4. Now your launcher is set to default
   

If that didn’t resolve the issue, you can try installing another third party launcher like Nova.

Final method:

Uninstalling and reinstalling your launcher will also resolve the issue. However, you will lose your homescreen icons so you will have to set it up again. Simply go to settings >> apps >> scroll down and select the name of your launcher >> tap “uninstall”. Then go back to Google Play and re-install the launcher. Now you will get your app drawer icon back in your homescreen dock.

That’s it. Even If you use other launchers apart from the ones mentioned above, you can use similar methods to restore missing app drawer/launcher icon on your home screen.

The display staying blank while receiving calls is a frequent problem plaguing Android users who have recently updated their device to Lollipop 5.0 (Android L) or 6.0 Marshmallow. KitKat 4.4 and Jellybean 4.3 users might also face similar “black screen on call” issue, if they recently fiddled with the call notification settings of their devices. When your phone is idle, the screen sleeps but it should wake up when you get a call. Due to this bug, when there’s an incoming call you can hear the ringtone playing but the display remains blank, so you can’t see who is calling without pressing the power button to unlock the screen. Here is how you can fix this issue:

First, check for updates. If new firmware or new version of Android OS is available, install it.
